Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy

Our vascular department offers patients with vascular disease the state of the art diagnosis, treatment and follow up for the full spectrum of arterial and venous disorders. Because of advanced expertise in both catheter directed and open procedures, the best and most durable therapy is selected for each individual patient.

We strive to provide the patient with the needed diagnostic evaluation and management plan using a “one stop shopping paradigm” during a single hospital encounter. Diagnostic capabilities include duplex ultrasound, CT, MRI to precisely determine the nature and severity of the vascular problem upon which the best treatment option is selected.

The catheterization labs and operating theatres at the Dar Al Fouad Hospital are outfitted with cutting edge technology. Recently installed is a multidisciplinary Cath lab (Biplane Siemens Artis Zee) which allows for high resolution 3 and 4 dimensional imaging of the entire vascular tree. This suite offers the latest technology to perform, without surgery, catheter directed minimally invasive procedures for the most complex aortic aneurysms, treatment of stroke, and severe blockages of arteries and veins. Various devices such as balloons, stents, stent grafts approved for use in the US and European markets are immediately available to our team.

Prior to any procedure our patients are carefully evaluated in a multidisciplinary approach by cardiology, nephrology, anesthesia and internal medicine to optimize their care before, during and after the procedure.

Prof. Dr. Hisham Bassiouny heads the vascular program. He is a US trained vascular surgeon with 25 years of clinical expertise at the University of Chicago, where he was Professor and Chief of the Vascular Section. Dr. Bassiouny has more than 100 articles and book chapters published in international peer reviewed journals and has received prestigious research awards in vascular disease. For more information on Dr Bassiouny, patient information on aortic aneurysms and carotid artery disease in stroke, visit vascular-therapy.com. The vascular team is available 24/7 for all elective and emergency vascular conditions and follows the motto “results mean everything”. Many of our patients present for redo interventions which are not readily available outside DAFH.

Acting in close cooperation with the cardiothoracic department, Dar Al Fouad has launched the "Aortic Center"; a multi-disciplinary practice for treating thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms. List of Procedures:
